Your 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins early in the morning with pick-up from your riad or hotel.

Leaving the city behind, the road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains, offering spectacular views of valleys, mountain villages, and winding roads. A stop is made at Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, where you can enjoy the panoramic scenery.

The journey continues toward the famous Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified kasbah built from traditional clay architecture. This historic village has served as a backdrop for many films and series and remains one of Morocco’s most impressive cultural landmarks.

After exploring the kasbah, the road leads to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert,” before continuing through the Skoura palm oasis and the beautiful landscapes of the Rose Valley.

In the afternoon you will pass through Tinghir and reach the spectacular Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise dramatically above the riverbed. After a short walk and photo stop, the journey continues through desert towns such as Tinjdad and Erfoud, famous for fossils and date production.

By late afternoon you arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara. Here you will meet your camel guide and begin a peaceful camel trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Stop along the way to watch the sunset from the top of a dune before arriving at your desert camp, where dinner and traditional music around the fire await under the star-filled desert sky.

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the Sahara dunes — one of the most memorable moments of the journey.

After breakfast at the camp, return by camel to the village where your driver will be waiting. The route back to Marrakech takes a different road through the desert landscapes of southern Morocco.

The first stop is the traditional market town of Rissani, once an important caravan trading center in the region. From here the journey continues through the rugged landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

You will pass through Nkob, a village known for its historic kasbahs, before reaching the impressive Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest valley, lined with thousands of palm trees and ancient villages.

After lunch along the route, the drive continues back toward Ouarzazate and across the High Atlas Mountains once again.

By late afternoon or early evening, you arrive back in Marrakech, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad. End of your 2-day Sahara desert adventure from Marrakech.
