Your 3-day Marrakech to Zagora desert tour begins with morning pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. The journey starts with a scenic drive across the High Atlas Mountains, one of the most beautiful mountain routes in Morocco.

After several panoramic stops, you will cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, where the views stretch over valleys, mountain villages, and winding roads. The next major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous ksars and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This old fortified village has been used in many films and is one of the highlights of southern Morocco.

After time to explore Ait Ben Haddou, continue to Ouarzazate, where you may visit Taourirt Kasbah and pass by the film studios. The route then heads south toward Agdz, with changing landscapes of rocky mountains and desert plains.

By late afternoon, arrive in Agdz, a peaceful town at the edge of the Draa Valley. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view over the palm groves and surrounding mountains.

After breakfast, continue south through the magnificent Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest palm valleys. This part of the journey is full of old kasbahs, mud-brick villages, and endless date palms.

The route takes you through Zagora and then to Tamgroute, known for its traditional green pottery and old religious library. If open, you can visit some of its historic sites and get a glimpse into local heritage.

From here, continue toward M’hamid, where the paved road begins to fade into open desert. This is where the Sahara atmosphere truly starts.

In the afternoon, meet your camel guide and begin your camel ride through the dunes. The pace is calm and peaceful, allowing you to enjoy the silence of the desert and the changing colors of the sand. Stop to watch the sunset before continuing to your desert camp.

Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the desert before breakfast at camp.

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Marrakech through wide desert landscapes. Depending on road and weather conditions, the route may pass near Iriki Lake, a dry seasonal lake that creates a striking open landscape.

Continue toward Taznakht, a Berber town known for its handmade carpets and traditional weaving. This is a good place to stop for lunch and stretch before the final part of the drive.

In the afternoon, continue back through the mountain roads toward Marrakech, arriving by late afternoon or evening.
